Paule Attar Salon Supports Breast Cancer Research

April 6, 2002

BELLEVUE, Wash. - Paule Attar Salon and Day Spa is supporting the Climb to Fight Breast Cancer by donating a portion of its revenue in April and May.

The Climb for Breast Cancer raises money for breast cancer research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Participants will climb Mt. Baker on June 21-23. Each member of the team is responsible for raising $3000.

"One of the climbers is Diane Macrae, a massage therapist here," said salon co-owner Heinz Mikulka. "We thought the best way to support her would be to donate 10 percent of the full value of all services performed at the salon and spa on April 22 and 24 and on May 13 and 15. This way we involve our clients in the fight against breast cancer, too."

Mikulka noted that breast cancer affects one in eight women in the United States and kills more than 40,000 women a year. It also affects men: 1600 males were diagnosed with the disease in 1998.

Macrae invited her donors to write the name of someone they know who has had breast cancer on a pink ribbon she supplied. She will carry the ribbons to the summit to honor them and return ribbons to donors if they wish.

"This is such a touching gesture that we decided to give each of our clients on those four days a pink ribbon." Mikulka said.
